Girl Scouts of Northern California is committed to providing exciting and enriching outdoor experiences for all girls. Join us in this commitment and give your daughter the gift of a lifetime- SUMMER CAMP!

Registration for 2010 will open on February 1st! All program listings are current, so you don't need to wait for the brochure to check out everything happening in 2010!

Sierra Fun Programs

Camp Adventure

Grades 4-6 Sessions 1, 3, 5 Fee $485

Are you looking for that traditional, all around, camp experience? Then Camp Adventure is the perfect choice for you! This program may include swimming, and canoeing, inner tube and funyak races, lake sings, stargazing, floating lunches, arts and crafts, and a whole lot more! Come have an adventure, Deer Lake style!

Aqua Adventure

Grades 4-6 Sessions 2, 4 Fee $510

Score, splash, and tip over as you play inner tube water polo. Improve your swimming skills, enjoy canoeing, and maybe even try windsurfing or stand-up paddle boarding! Play games in funyaks, have a floating lunch on Deer Lake, and take an exciting day trip to West End Beach on Donner Lake for a day of fun in the sun. Splish, splash you’ll be havin’ a blast!

Sierra Seekers

Grades 5-7 Sessions 1, 3, 5 Fee $495

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: participate in a high-tech treasure hunting game called Geocaching, played by adventure seekers like you all over the world. First, you’ll navigate a network of obstacles while working together as a team. Then you’ll climb to the top of the Vertical Playpen, paddle your way through the canoe slalom course, and soar down the zip line. As you discover clues by using a GPS device, your team will solve The Great Deer Lake Mystery then create your own geocache for other Seekers to find.

Moonlight Madness

Grades 4-6 Sessions 2, 4 Fee $485

Explore Deer Lake by moonlight! Super cool astronomy night hikes, twilight canoe rides, shooting stars, and sleep-out breakfasts are included. Pop some popcorn and hang out in the D.L. Zone with your friends. During the day, you’ll get to join in the other awesome activities Deer Lake has to offer. You’ll get the best of the day time and the night time!

Camp Outpost

Grades 6-9 Sessions 1, 3 Fee $485

Looking for adventure and challenge? Want to develop some outdoor skills? Then Camp Outpost is where it’s at! Experience the excitement of Deer Lake as you and your new friends overcome team building activities and challenges, test your skills at archery, and take some amazing day hikes in the forest surrounding this awesome camp!

Come Sail Away

Grades 6-9 Session 1 Fee $545

With the wind in your hair and the sun on your face, spend your days on Kidd Lake. Balance the board, pull up a sail, navigate and experience the rush of windsurfing. Have a blast building crazy rafts and get a chance to paddle around Deer Lake. For some extra excitement, you’ll take a tour of Lake Tahoe aboard the 50-foot sailing yacht Tahoe Cruise.

Wilderness Girls

Grades 5-7 Sessions 1, 4 Fee $485

Go wild at camp! Discover how to track wild animals, cook outdoors, make your own tools, build forts, lash chairs, and tell time by the sun. Learn wilderness techniques and survival skills that will give you a truly unique Deer Lake experience. Don’t mind a little dirt? Then grab your camp friends, come explore and have an amazing Wilderness Adventure!

Extreme Cuisine!

Grades 6-9 Sessions 2, 4 Fee $485

Outdoor cooking adventure style! You and your team of Extreme Chefs will take on the ultimate cooking challenge. Each day a mystery basket with surprise ingredients will arrive. It’s up to your teams to create gourmet appetizers, entrees, or desserts based on what you get. Using different types of cooking methods and lots of imagination, you’ll prepare your delicious dishes – and our Camp Cooks will choose their favorites. It’s cuisine extreme!

Sierra High Adventure Programs

Rockin Out

Grades 4-6 Sessions 3, 5 Fee $560

Do you love to climb? You’ll get the opportunity to climb to the top of the DL climbing wall, soar down the zip line, scramble across the monkey vines, and wobble your way through the criss cross. For a taste of real rock climbing head to School Rock at Donner Pass with certified instructors from Alpine Skills International for a day of climbing instruction and fun. Rock on!

River Runners

Grades 7-12 Sessions 3, 5 Fee $570

Think you have what it takes to ride the rapids? We sure think you do! Come challenge some tough rapids on a half-day trip down the Truckee River on Class 2 and Class 3 rapids. As if that isn’t enough adventure, challenge yourself on the canoe slalom course, climb, windsurf, hike, and swim while you’re a River Runner! Girls in this program must be able to swim face down in deep water.

Shoot the Rapids

Grades 8-12 Session 4 Fee $695

How adventurous are you? Grab your paddle and become part of a team as you spend 2 days rafting on the American River with qualified experienced guides. Your group will camp out underneath the stars, explore the rapids, work together, and discover the adventurous spirit in each of you! Everyone back at camp will be waiting to hear about your amazing river adventure. Girls in this program must be able to swim facedown in deep water.

Rock N’ River

Grades 7-12 Sessions 2, 4 Fee $585

Can’t decide if you want to raft or climb? Now you can do both! Spend one day rafting on the Truckee River and one day climbing at Donner Pass. Back at camp build rafts with your camp friends and challenge each other to a team race across the lake. The rest of the week have an awesome time with everything else there is to do at Deer Lake. Rafting is a float trip down the Truckee River.

CDL Survivor

Grades 6-9 Sessions 2, 5 Fee $485

Hooked on Survivor? Now is your chance to play, Deer Lake style! First, learn some cool outdoor skills like shelter building, lashing, compass reading, outdoor cooking, animal tracking, and finding your way by the night sky. Then test those skills in a week-long adventure game – you’ll soon find that TEAMWORK is the key to success. Can you outwit, outlast, and outsmart your campmates? Compete for rewards and the “treasured” immunity. Friendly competition is the name of this game.

Day Trippers

Grades 7-12 Session 1 Fee $560

Take a float trip down the Truckee River, ride up a gondola to High Camp at Squaw Valley, relax in the sun at West End Beach on Donner Lake, and lace up your skates at North Star. Back at camp, the adventure continues as you paddle your way around Deer Lake, sleep under the stars, and shoot some arrows on the archery range.

Vertical Horizons

Grades 7-12 Session 2 Fee $560

Test your strengths and challenge your fears while you focus on team building, cooperation, having fun, and learning to trust your teammates. During your week at camp, you will be using the high ropes course, climbing tower, and other activities to get you started. At the end of the week, you’ll head to the high ropes course at Squaw Valley for a final team challenge.

CDL Survivor Extreme- Team Challenge

Grades 8-12 Session 3 Fee $485

If you’ve already Survived once at CDL or think you are prepared for an Extreme Challenge, dare yourself to show up for this program. Your team must work together to first create your own primitive living unit. Then participate in daily challenges designed to put your teamwork to the test. Be prepared to hike, swim, paddle, climb, zip, shoot, geocache, and help your team navigate its way to success. And it all leads up to the ultimate challenge – The Great Team Swim across Deer Lake. It’s an extreme adventure waiting for you!

Deer Lake Leadership Programs

Leadership programs are by application only. To apply, submit your camp registration form and additional leadership application form and reference form, either on-line or by mail or FAX. The application form can be found on the registration page, you candownload it or contact the Girl Scout office at happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org. An interview may be required for all programs except Lead On! Only one of the C.I.T. or W.I.T. programs may be taken per summer. The Lead On! Program and any level of the C.I.T. program can be taken in the same summer.

Lead On! – Pre-C.I.T.

Be at least 14 years old and entering the 9th Grade Lead On! Fee $525

Discover your leadership potential! Enhance your skills in campcraft, communication, group dynamics, team building and more. (Not required for entrance into C.I.T.)

Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.)

Be at least 15 years old and entering the 10th Grade C.I.T Fee $595

Improve your leadership skills and learn about the needs of children in the camp setting. Explore the basics of developing and delivering camp program and camp operations. Spend some time working with younger children.

Advanced Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.)

Be at least 16 years old or entering 11th Grade Advanced C.I.T. Fee $650

Focus on camp management and gain practical experience in various areas of the camp operation. Practice your leadership and program skills while working with younger campers. Must have completed C.I.T. or its equivalent.

Apprentice Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.)

Be at least 17 years old or entering 12th Grade Apprentice C.I.T. Fee $550

Find your place in camp. Use your leadership and program skills as you work under the supervision of camp staff, in units, or at your favorite specialty area. Carry out an individual project and learn more about camp management. Must have completed C.I.T. or its equivalent.
