Work at Camp

GSNorCal Counselors

Our Philosophy

Each year, we hire over 200 individuals from all over the United States and around the world. GSNorCal camps are designed to provide a unique atmosphere where girls are respected, nurtured, challenged, and empowered. Under the guidance of our staff, campers participate in activities that build self-esteem, develop skills, increase knowledge, enhance teamwork and cooperative behaviors, and of course have fun!

We value the role staff members play in bringing the camp mission to life. Working as a team, we create a supportive environment that respects each child as an individual and allows them to feel good about who they are. We are looking for individuals who share this commitment to making a difference in the lives of girls!

If you or someone you know would like to join our camp community this summer, learn more about the application process, here. If you are interested in volunteering, contact: volunteercamps@girlscoutsnorcal.org.

Our Campers

GSNorCal welcomes nearly 4,500 girls who range in age from 5-17 and who represent a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our camp staff are skilled at welcoming each girl into the camp community and supporting her through the camp experience. Our camps are places where you will make life-changing connections and our camp staff and volunteers are our camper’s most enthusiastic advocates.

Training

All camp staff and volunteers attend a paid, on-site, mandatory, and comprehensive training and orientation, where they learn or review camping skills, risk management, and safety procedures, Girl Scout program, human relations, and communication skills. Many of our camp staff return each year and travel from all around the world to join us.

Benefits

Campers are not the only ones to benefit from camp. GSNorCal camp staff gain skills in conflict resolution, communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. After a summer at camp, staff are able to apply knowledge learned in real-world settings, they become more competitive candidates for jobs, and are left with a foundation of skills valued by employers. The GSNorCal camp environment sets clear workplace outcome expectations through training and evaluation, and strongly influence skills and competencies future employers seek. Make your summer count! Experience an adventure and challenge that will make friends envious, parents proud and future employers give major acknowledgement!
